Adding this one small thing to your home could make a huge difference!
I have a confession. I broke down and bought something for myself. It was just so bright and cute I couldn’t resist:
It got me thinking about plants. Plants are pretty cool, right? They definitely bring me joy. But I’ve always considered them to be purely decorative.
Then I got to researching. And now I want to fill my entire apartment with plants. Did you know:
Plants create a healthful atmosphere. Studies have indicated that people in hospitals who are exposed to plants heal faster than those who are not. One study found that patients who had a view of plants needed less medication, had fewer physiological signs of stress, and on average, went home a day earlier than those who didn’t!
Plants detoxify the air. As we all learned in grade-school science, plants convert carbon dioxide into oxygen. But did you know that plants have the ability to detox your air? B.C. Wolverton, an environmental scientist working with NASA in the 1960s and 70s. Plants have the ability to draw in toxins and remove them, improving air quality. (Read more about it here).
Plants are natural de-stressors. The Journal of Physiological Anthropology published a study that found that interacting with plants on a daily basis can reduce both physical and mental stress.
Plants promote attentiveness and creativity. One study conducted at the Royal College of Agriculture in Cirencester found that placing plants in classrooms boosted focus by as much as 70%.
Now I’ve started noticing the benefits of plants everywhere. One of my neighbors has adorned our entire courtyard with beautiful plants. It creates a peaceful, serene atmosphere that makes me not dread going outside - even in this horrible weather! My office building is also full of plants - in fact, I have two live plants in my office alone! They definitely reduce my stress and help me to focus.
Get some plants. Put them everywhere. Not sure where to start? Check out these suggestions!
